Mass adoption of decentralized protocols and crypto as a whole will take place only when the process for doing so becomes as frictionless as possible. One of the primary issues to tackle: a simple way for users to use their credit or debit cards to buy cryptocurrencies with. Onramper aims to be the solution to this problem, serving as a gateway to all the major fiat onramps in the space. This is why we are excited to announce that we have partnered with Onramper to integrate them into our site as Sushi’s fiat onramp solution, enabling our users to buy a wide variety of cryptocurrencies from almost any country in the world without ever having to leave the app!
For the uninitiated, Onramper functions as an aggregator of sorts - utilizing multiple fiat onramp providers, they are able to act as a single point of entry for users looking to buy tokens using traditional means, such as a credit card or bank account. Users have the option of choosing which provider they would like to execute the transaction with, armed with Onramper’s in-house routing system that helps calculate the cheapest and most efficient way of doing so. With support for more than 95+ fiat currencies across 200+ countries around the world, it’s not hard to see why we decided to go with the talented and hungry team at Onramper for our users’ global fiat onramp needs.
Using Onramper within the Sushi app is simple and intuitive - and you never even have to leave the site! Here’s how it works:
Head over to the Sushi app and direct your attention to the top of the page where you will see the Buy Crypto tab - select it.
This will guide you to the Onramper widget: fill out all of the required information, including the asset you’re looking to buy and your chosen method of payment, as well as what type of fiat currency you will be using to buy the asset with. Once you have filled all of these out, Onramper will automatically calculate the most cost-effective route for the transaction and let you know which it is, as well as many other routes to select as options in case the recommended one isn’t ideal.
The filled out widget will look similar to this:
Once you have submitted your order, you will be asked to fill out a brief identity verification form that Onramper then distributes to your chosen onramp provider, abstracting away all of the annoying processes that are normally present when making transactions such as these. After a brief wait (times can vary; see the FAQ at the end of the article for more information) - during which time any user can check the status of their transaction via an email that will be automatically sent to them if they’re curious - the newly-bought funds will arrive in the wallet address provided, and you’re done!
Buying crypto from all around the globe has never been easier, and we’re honored to have a hand in the solution for all of our users. There are no major changes to the Sushi app either - we’ve simply integrated Onramper into the site where it lives under its own tab (Buy Crypto), while everything else remains the same and familiar. Check out the new feature and let us know what you think!
